How COVID-19 is Impacting The Genealogy Community

As the height of the worldwide health crisis continues to evolve, by the day. People are having feelings of confusion, fear, sadness, uncertainty, and more. Many people are in lockdown to try to slow down the spread of the virus by staying inside.    You might have  more time to spare by reading a book, taking a walk, watching a webinar, etc.  The death rates are rising each day. In the United States, alone there are 115, 976 cases (as of 3/28/20).  Now that people's lives are turning upside down by this pandemic, we now have to adjust to this new normal. This may be a difficult time for you, so I will list several resources below to hopefully maintain your sanity during this time. Saturday Night Genealogy Fun-What's on Your Genealogy Bookshelf?

It's  Saturday Night  -  time for more  Genealogy Fun!   Your mission, should you decide to accept it (cue the Mission Impossible music here) is to: 1)  Teresa at the  Writing My Past blog wrote a post about her genealogy bookshelf , even showing photographs of the books on several of her shelves.  Linda Stufflebean thought this was a good SNGF topic, so here we are!  2)  Tell us what books, or types of books are on your genealogy bookshelf/ves in your home.  Do you have a photo of them?  Are there specific books that you use more than others? 3)  Tell us about it in your own blog post, in a comment to this blog post, or in a post on Facebook.  I have books in many places. WWII Draft Cards NEW Discoveries

Last week on Friday, I watched a video on the Genealogy TV channel about Ancestry's Updates featuring Crista Cowan-The Barefoot Genealogist.  One thing that she mentioned is the WWII Young Men's Draft cards.   "We entered into a collaboration with the National Archives about six and a half years ago. To all get their Young Men's Draft cards digitized, indexed, put online. FamilySearch collaborated with us on that. So, I think something like 300,000 volunteers helped indexed these records. And as of this week, they are finished. They are all online.
