Saturday Night Genealogy Fun - Records With Your First Name and Surname

 It's Saturday Night again -

Time for some more Genealogy Fun!!

1)  You were born and given a forename (first name and middle name(?)) and a surname on your birth certificate. What were they?

2)  How many persons are on the FamilySearch Family Tree (with an exact search for a birth name) with your first and, separately, your surname? Are there any other persons with your complete first-middle-surnames?
3)  How many matches do you have when you search the FamilySearch Historical Records  (with an exact search for a name) with your first name, and separately, with your surname?  Are there any other persons with your complete first-middle-surname?

4)  How many person are in the Public Ancestry Member Tree collection  (with an exact search for a name) with your first name and, separately, your surname? Are there any other persons with your complete first-middle-surname?

5)  How many person are in the Ancestry Historical Records Collections  (with an exact search for a name) with your first name and, separately, your surname? Are there any other persons with your complete first-middle-surname?

1). I’m not going to disclose my full name just because of privacy reasons, but I will give my first and middle name. My first and middle name is Lacie Madison.

2) On the FamilySearch Tree, the results for this one are slightly different. If I only select the exact box for the name field, I receive 712 results, but if I check exact for the birthdate range (I used the birth ranges Randy suggested) as well, I receive 615 results.  I received 32,549 results for my surname. The results for my first name and middle name, as well as my full name, were zero.

3) On the FamilySearch Historical Records —same thing — if I only select exact for the name field, but not for the birth date range, I get 23,474. But if I mark exact both for the name field and the birth date field, I get 16,497.

For my last name, I get 438,149 Results. For my full name, I get zero search results.

4) On Ancestry, my first name is in 2395 Ancestry Public Member trees. My surname is in 40,703 trees. There is only one person with my first and last name, but my last name is spelled differently by one letter, even when selecting exact settings. No one has my full name.

5) On Ancestry Historical Records Collections, there are 71,445 results for my first name. My last name has 905,288. Even with selecting the search exact, it says three people put the spellings off. And there’s no results for my full name.

I actually liked doing this assignment— it’s been a while since I’ve done one.

Intentions & Reflections

Photo by Sixteen Miles Out on Unsplash I haven’t blogged in a while. For two years, I put this blog on private as I’d no longer had the willpower to push out blog posts the way that I did six years ago. I write a little more about this in my blog post Why Do You Do… ?  Recently, I have revamped my blog. I have unpublished posts that didn’t reflect who I was then or who I am now, or those that felt too personal to share ‘out there’. I also removed posts I wrote  just for the sake of posting content and main taining an audience,   even when  inauthentic to me. It means more to me that others feel the value and quality of what I share rather than the quantity. I am not sure how often I will post, all I know is when the inspiration and curiosity strike, that’s when it will occur. My intention for this blog is to lead with more spontaneity than usual, structured content, along with transparency, authenticity, and vulnerability to whatever degree feels right. My inte...
